3.Special Issues

Growth and Change (SSCI-indexed), Socio-Economic Planning Sciences (SSCI-indexed), and the Chinese Economy each will have a special issue for this workshop. All papers presented at the workshop are welcomed for submissions to the special issues. Details of submission instructions will be provided after the workshop. All submissions will go through the normal anonymous review process.

Growth and Change (SSCI-indexed): Growth and Change, published by Wiley, is a broadly based forum for scholarly research on all aspects of urban and regional development and policy-making. Interdisciplinary in scope, the journal publishes both empirical and theoretical contributions from economics, geography, public finance, urban and regional planning, agricultural economics, public policy, and related fields. These include full-length research articles, perspectives (contemporary assessments and views on significant issues in urban and regional development), as well as critical book reviews. The theme of the special issue is “big data and urban and regional policy evaluation.” For the details of submission procedure, please refer to a separate call-for-paper.

Socio-Economic Planning Sciences (SEPS, SSCI-indexed): SEPS, published by Elsevier, strongly encourages contributions dealing with applications of quantitative models and techniques to important decision problems in the service sector. Of particular interest are accounts of such studies carried out in developing countries and economically emerging regions of the world. Review articles in important methodological and substantive areas are also of interest. The principal criterion used in evaluating a manuscript submitted to the journal is: uniqueness or innovation of the work in terms of the methodology being developed, and/or its application to a problem of particular importance in the public or service sector and/or the setting within which the effort is being made, e.g. an emerging region of the world. A call-for-paper for the special issue will be announced later.

The Chinese Economy: Published bimonthly by Taylor & Francis Group, the journal offers an objective and analytical account of the economic issues about China. It publishes original works written by scholars over the world. The refereed Journal provides readers with useful information on China’s economic development, for conducting future research, and for understanding important policy implications. Articles in this journal are indexed/listed JEL, RePEc, Econlit, ABI/INFORM, Bibliography of Asian Studies, and Bibliography of Social Sciences. For submissions, please contact Shunfeng Song at song@unr.edu.

In addition, editors or chief editorial board members from Regional Science and Urban Economics, Journal of Regional Science, Journal of Geographical System, Economic Geography, International Regional Science Review, Annals of Regional Science, Spatial Economic Analysis, Journal of Social and Economic Geography, and Journal of Urban Affairswill attend the workshop. They welcome submissions that fit these journals.

4.Further Information

As the only institute of higher education around the world that carries “AUDIT” in its name, Nanjing Audit University (NAU) was initially founded in 1983, right after the foundation of the National Audit Office of China. In response to urgent auditing needs after the Reform and Opening-up Policy, NAU has been developing rapidly despite its relatively short history. Its current student population is more than 16,000, and it has a faculty over 1,000. NAU is approximately ranked the 45th based on the average entrance score of the National College Entrance Exams, and is listed among top universities in Jiangsu Province based on graduate employment competitiveness, average salary, and satisfaction. NAU’s main campus is located in Pukou District of Nanjing and is often referred as “the most beautiful new campus” in China.

The Institute of Urban Development (IUD) is a newly founded research institute at NAU. Dr. Shunfeng Song, Dean of IUD, is a tenured full professor in economics from the University of Nevada, Reno, and a Changjiang Chaired Professor of China's Ministry of Education. The institute has recruited about 15 young talented economists from abroad since 2017, and it will continue to recruit more scholars every year in the near future. IUD promotes all applied research, especially urban and regional economics, industrial economics, environmental and resource economics, public economics, and labor and health economics. Regularly, IUD supports and organizes various academic activities, including international conferences, research seminars, and academic workshops. Through high research quality and active academic activities, IUD aims to build up an internationally well-known research center in applied economics.
